Refreshing these beds usually means clearing old, compacted mulch first and checking what's underneath before adding anything new, since built-up material can smother roots over time.

Both materials need attention eventually, just on different timelines. Crushed stone shifts and settles somewhat through its first winter as freeze-thaw cycling works on it, while organic mulch breaks down and needs refreshing more often, especially in beds that get direct sun most of the day.
Matching material to how the lot looks
A newer hillside build with clean, modern lines often calls for a different rock than a bed running along an older cabin's stone foundation. We bring samples out before ordering anything, since a color that reads right in a supply yard doesn't always match once it's sitting against your house.
Getting material to the site
Some of Bigfork's older in-town lots near downtown have narrow driveways or tight side-yard access, which limits how a truck can actually get material onto the property. On lots like that, rock and mulch often get wheeled in by hand rather than dumped straight from the truck bed, and that changes both the timeline and how we quote the job. Newer hillside lots usually have wider access built in from construction, so delivery there tends to be more straightforward.
